Angry White Boy Polka

"Masterfully done."

date: November 7, 2003

When making a music video, the most important first decision is the choice of song, and I believe you chose an EXCELLENT song. Weird Als "Angry White Boy Polka" is some of his finest work, and is extremely enjoyable in of itself. However, you also did the second necessary aspect: make a strong visual presentation to accompany the audio. Some individuals make a pathetic movie, hoping an excellent song will save the flash entry - but it never does. You capture the essence of "Weird Al"-esque sentiments and expressions in this whacky, original, masterful creation. Your methodology of lip synching is, to my knowledge, completely original and fantastic in execution. Your research into the band members' appearances and subsequent caricatures are equally stunning.

That about sums up my feelings: you have created an extremely entertaining flash entry of extremely high caliber. The only problem I have with it is the 6th vignette ("Last Nite" by 'The Strokes') because of the slow, repetitive, and annoying tempo - however this is an element of the song which you cannot change, and given the song, you coped with it very well.

For those who are interested, the complete lyrics to "Weird Al" Yankovic's song, "Angry White Boy Polka," may be found at the following URL: http://www.lyricstime.com/lyrics/56034.html

Also for those curious, here are the 13 vignettes of the movie - the song title and artist being imitated by Weird Al:

1.) "Last Resort" by 'Papa Roach'
2.) "Chop Suey" by 'System Of A Down'
3.) "Get Free" by 'The Vines'
4.) "Hate To Say I Told You So" by 'The Hives'
5.) "Fell in Love with a Girl" by 'The White Stripes'
6.) "Last Nite" by 'The Strokes'
7.) "Get Down with the Sickness" by 'Disturbed'
8.) "Renegades of Funk" by 'Rage Against the Machine'
9.) "My Way" by 'Limp Bizkit'
10.) "Outside" by 'Staind'
11.) "Bawitdaba" by 'Kid Rock'
12.) "Youth of the Nation" by 'Pod'
13.) "The Real Slim Shady" by 'Eminem'

Decent audio, but you had nothing to do with its creation, you only made an awful visual to accompany it.

The word " Fuck "

"I'm getting sick of these."

If only one person would make a GOOD movie out of this audio, I would be greatly relieved, instead of these mediocre and possibly stolen videos.

To respond to your comments:

1.) Seth ( Z3RO-exe ), based his movie off of my original drawings.

Okay.

2.) I did not steal anything, I drew everything from scratch and by myself.

Okay, but you could have put more work into it. I'll go into that a bit more after.

3.) THE SOUND IS NOT MINE! I don't know who made it, but I found it off the internet, so it isn't theft you dumbass newbs who think it is.

It's by George Carlin. Most people claim it's by Monty Python, but that's just some idiot who mis-labled it on Kazaa. I've never heard anyone ascribe it to "Theft," that's just stupid.

4.) I am not racist, any term to African Americans is because I'M FUCKING BLACK!
With this said and done, enjoy the movie

As usual, it was entertaining because of the great audio, but I must say your part of the video (the graphics) left a bit to be desired. Still, it's different from the others (e.g. not completely the same and stolen), but it consists of two, maybe three layers: a guy with no lip synching, the scratches on the projector screen to represent the poor quality of the tape reel film, and of course, the heart of the film, the visuals to match the audios. It's a good idea, but you could really have spent a little more time on this and made it much better, but still, good work, not very original, but you can't be blamed for a logical and good choice of audio. Good job, keep it up.

Alice

"Good movie. Front page? No, but good movie."

submission: Alice
date: August 10, 2003

Incredulous Review: (a.k.a. "Why is this on the front page?")

This movie, as far as I can tell, consists of:

• Good music not by you (not like you claimed it was).
• Imported photographs (backgrounds) - also no real effort by you.
• Extremely poor graphics, which attempt to use twitching lines to make up for real animation.
• Photoshop mosaic effect on imported photographs.
• Tracing of photographs in flash.

Like a circle painted on canvas that sells for millions if by a famous painter but is wallpaper by any other artist, this movie is not even close to front-page material, but yet here it is.

I must admit I'm being over-critical. If this wasn't on the front page, I would enjoy it as yet another cute movie in the portal. It is enjoyable, and makes you think a little. HOWEVER, it is TOTALLY out of place on the front page, and it irks me that it would make it there simply by its author. Hence my spite. Good movie, otherwise. Absolutely not even close to the best material on NG, but absolutely not shit, either.

Non-incredulous Review: (as if it weren't on the front page)

I stated that the graphics and animations were pretty weak, but it's certainly not by lack of ability. While they didn't add to it, they didn't detract to much, either.

The music was an excellent choice, and good, properly accredited music never counts against you, and in this case made the movie quite enjoyable.

Interactivity, Violence, and Humor aren't really applicable, but this isn't a bad thing, merely the nature of the entry. It has aspects that made me smile, though (3/10 humor), and while there wasn't any violence per se, the deranged nature warranted a 1/10 - but both of those scores, and the 0 for interactivity, are irrelevant in the overall score and affect of the movie.

The style is the big plus for this movie, for it is EXTREMELY original, and very entertaining, and also meaningful (well, not meaningful in the sense of deserving analysis for decades by historians and English teachers, but enough to make you think).

All-in-all, a good movie (8/10), but over-hyped (through no fault of your own). Worth seeing, but not on the front page. Good job, keep it up.
